Frequently Asked Questions

Why anvils?

Joshua Kavett has been interested in history, especially industrial history, for his entire life. He has also been a lifelong collector of interesting objects. After reading Anvils in America by Richard Postman, Joshua Kavett visited the Crossley Factory where Fisher anvils were produced until 1979. He arrived months before the building was demolished and rescued hundreds of objects that otherwise would have been lost forever. He then spent twenty years researching the company, building a collection of Fisher anvils, and constructing a physical museum.

How many anvils are in the collection?

The museum contains over 500 anvils. Most anvils were produced by Fisher & Norris, but also displayed are various rare anvils from Hay Budden, Peter Wright, and other companies. Also in the museum collection are many Fisher & Norris vises, original Fisher & Norris anvil patterns, an 1880s vintage caboose, an oil well jack pump, a 1500 lb anchor, and many other interesting objects.

Can I visit the Fisher & Norris Factory Museum?

The Museum is only open for private tours by appointment.

How can I support the Museum?

You can support the museum by buying The History of Fisher & Norris book from the museum shop – click here, as well as shirts and posters.  Donations of Fisher products or other interesting objects are also gratefully accepted. You can also “like” the Museum on Facebook and share the posts you find interesting.
